Mine arrived today, put it together but fuel pipe appears to go directly above burner.

Is this right ?

This is to vaporise the fuel before it reaches the jets?

That's right.  The petrol has to be heated and pressurised before it hits the burner.

Don't worry.  I've still got both sets of eyebrows.

Good tip I was given on here was don't fill the fuel container more than half full. It works better but can't remember why - some technical person will have to help me here. Also use the high octain unleaded fuel as this performs better. Some have suggested occasionally using Coleman fuel but I have never done this.
Love my Coleman!!!!

Yep, fuel feeder pipe runs above the main burner to heat and help atomise the fuel/air mixture before being hitting the burner. The first minute or two after lighting, the flame will be yellow, but as it warms up,  the burner flames will start to go light blue. Just got to remember to keep the pressure up in the fuel tank. If after a minute or two, when you turn the lighting lever down, the flame is still yellow, give it a few more pumps to get the pressure up inside, and all will be well.

As for the fuel level in the tank, I've not noticed any difference in whether full or otherwise. You just have to make sure you keep the pressure up inside. Just that when full, you don't get as much air inside the tank as if it was half full. I just watch it occasionally to make sure it's burning blue, and if not, give it a few more pumps and  watch the flame improve accordingly.

One mistake I did make when I first used it, was not turning the pump enough. Followed the instructions, but wondered why it was always burning yellow. I realised I hadn't turned the pump enough, and I wasn't getting pressure into the tank

Edited to add...

As far as fuel is concerned...First run was on coleman fuel, but since then, just topped off on normal unleaded petrol. So far no problem, but we'll see how it goes after a lot more use. I've got a spare can for flushing ready and waiting if necessary

I train retail staff on how to use the Coleman unleaded products.

The fuel tank level does not make any differance untill its so low the pickup tube in the tank cant lift the fuel (then you have run out). If you only fill it half full you need to put more pressure in the tank to make it run. Better to fill the tank ( on a level surface to avoid over filling). Coleman fuel is more refined then Unleaded and will result in the genorator lasting much longer other wise use ordinary unleaded fuel.

A good tip to improve the life of the genorator is to let the stove run on full power for an hour or more every six months. keep the air pressure up. This will break up carbon deposits due to the perlonged heating and the high pressure will blow them through the stove.

very good stove. best power available on the market and the cheapest to run whilst being very very safe

I've used one for years for fishing before I moved over to camping. I've got through quite a few generators in all this time, but I'm tempted to try your tip about burning the stove for an hour or more.

I've added red-x in the past in an attempt to clear/clean the generator.

For those a bit unsure, the generator is the copper coloured pipe that runs over the top of the unit:

We have one of these, during our last trip it leaked fuel from the fuel pipe, it worked fine on Sunday, but when we tried to use it again on Monday morning fuel dripped out of the pipe and caught light.

Can anyone suggest what we did wrong?  Although we have not had any problems with it before we are now reluctant to use it again.

What about cleaning issues; does that green paint ultimately come off the inside?

Hi Lancsc,ampers

If the fuel "leak" was from the end of the pipe which sticks into the generator, don't worry.  Probably you just flooded the generator by being a bit enthusiastic with your pumping.  Just leave it to evaporate, and it should be OK.

If the leak was from the end of the pipe next to the valve with the black knob, I think you've got a problem.  If one of the joints has broken or split, then it would need to be brazed or soldered.  Messy, and probably expensive, unless you can do it yourself.  Might be cheaper to replace the tank valve assembly.

Liddenham - yes the green paint does come off, and the metal rusts. But hey - it makes you look like a seasoned out doorsey type person.

Lancscampers, do you have the dual fuel double burner?  If you do and the dripping is on the end of the pipe that you have to push into the hole try adjusting the handle and fastener on the case so it is up out of the way of the fuel tank and you can push the pipe in a little further.
