HI all, we are new to camping, having just bought all the stuff needed, however we are struggling on sleeping bags. A Camping friend suggested that this was the 1 area we do not skimp on. We have 2 young daughters and was wondering if you guys could come up with some recommendations.

Hi. The mummy style bags with internal neck collars are the most effective and three seasons will keep you warm in all but the coldest winter nights. If you really want to be extravagant you can go for duck down bags. Make sure whatever you buy comes with a compression sack which will make them easier for transporting in the car. Good luck!

This site has good range, I just bought 2 Coleman bags, ordered them on Wednesday night and got them on Friday.

They are also really helpful, as I had a couple of questions and even although I sent an email at 19:58, I had a reply within an hour.

Depends what style you will be most comfortable with.Mummy style are most definately the warmest but if you find them restricting, you can still create a warm rectangle bag with layers if you need extra warmth.The higher the GSM the warmer the bag.Its always a good idea to climb inside a bag to see how you feel about the style,any good camping shop will let you do this.

I agree with all above but would add that if you move about in your sleep you will most likely not get on well with a mummy bag. I have large Vango 350 envelope style bags which are not as warm as their equivalent mummy styles but if you use a bag liner then they are fine.

Thanks all. We went to go outdoors and got some Gelert Tryfan bags, seem very reasonable at £12 each.
