Thanks Dick Turpin. Some support for my luddite ideas! Our site in France does not hire fridges. To close this thread (contributions to which I am extremely grateful) I am going to buy a simple, cheap, high-capacity, domestic fridge. I reckon that even if I have to replace it every year I am still quids in compared to the silly priced 3-way variants. Y'all may have the last laugh, and I am big enuff to admit it in a few years time! We'll see! Thanks again!

Noooooo...you got that wrong about being a Luddite. A Luddite wouldn`t be seen dead with EHU, let alone a fridge. A bucket with a wet teatowel over it...now THAT`S being a Luddite!
A wet towel? That's luxury! My childhood was I guess luddite, that's why I am rebelling and going for luxury and canvas - well nylon, but you know what I mean!

I'm looking at buying a Waeco Combicool & would like some advice on the gas supply.
The supplier is offering a regulator [£12] for either butane or propane.
We're off to France in August for 2 weeks so I guess I would favour what they favour. But that said we will be using the fridge in the UK for a couple of weekends.
Propane refills are nigh on impossible to get in France, while you can get refills for the CampingGaz 907s and 904s in most french supermarkets. (And more cheaply than here.) So my advice is to go for butane and scrounge around your local dump for a couple of empty cylinders to take in to exchange.
