I am thinking of buying a safari chef (LP) has any owners  got any reviews on this item . Also which gas is best to use Propane or butane ???

We got one for this season only used it a few times so far, we have the high pressure version and the cannisters are butane/propane mix.  I loved the wok type pan as our stove wouldn't take a pan that size without it being unstable.  The griddle  was very good for breakfast, either side worked well17

Only used the bbq once, it took a while to get going but the food tasted bbqed and very nice, probably need lots more practise.

I think it was well worth the money BUT I got it for £25 in Halfords sale.  Would I be happy if it had cost the full amount (£55 I think)?????? mmmmmmm.......  maybe not      I think!   Needs more use!

Hi Crazygang,

I'm like Dave, I have the HP version that uses cartridges (LP conversion adapter to be bought in the future), and I think it's brilliant. Small pack size, and very flexible, although I've yet to try out a pan on it, it's only been used as a barbie and fry/griddle plate so far

No problems with the griddle/hot plate at all, and the wok/lid is yet to be used in anger. One thing I did find though, was that the heat deflector plate used with the bbq grill can be a pain to clean if you decide not to clean it straight away. Fortunately, I'd bought a bottle of Cadac's own cleaner solution, so it wasn't a big problem. (excess alcohol and the lures of a site bar always gets the better of me )

If you're looking for a flexible cook system that makes use of limited space, and can't afford a Cobb or a larger model Cadac, it's ideal, and I guess the choice of gas doesn't really matter. Cartridges are a 70/30 mix of butane and propane, but for the LP version, I think it boils down to what is cheapest or available to you. Propane is better than butane in colder ambient temperatures, but I gather from other threads that would be frosty mornings instead of dew ones. Either way, it does the job for half the price of other systems, albeit with a smaller cooking surface area., but that's the tradeoff.

we have a hp unit on its way cant wait to try it out, what canister size do you use and  how much cooking time do you get out of a canister?

Hi MKMH, sorry Crazygang if I'm hijacking the thread.

I bought 2, 500g Cadac cartridges at Harrington's Caravans for about £6 each, and I'm still using the first one after about 4hrs cooking so far. It's noticeably lighter than the full, unused one, but I haven't really watched consumption so far. I'm still in the learning phase, so I'd say it'd be about 1/3rd full now. So, at a guess, I'd hazard about 6hrs from a 500g cartridge, depending on wind, alcohol consumption, and whether you like well-cooked food or not

thanks sharky my nearest outlet is go outdoors and as far as i know they dont sell cadac gas cartridges but next time i`m there i will look out for similar gas cartridge thanks cant wait till first trip
