Hi all

Its been a long time since i have been on the site - hope all are well, been working away from home quite a bit.

Does any one know where i can get a standalone guage to measure the contents of my gas bottles, my van has a built in regulator so i would either like to just measure them or fit one in line between the hose and reg.I have tried the magnetic ones and found these not very helpful.

Cheers for replies

Gary

Hi Gary.

From what I have gathered from previous posts and camping shops and also someone at my local gas suppliers the general feeling is that these guages are inaccurate !!! Apparently, when the gas is at different temperatures it gives diffeent readings !!!

Hope this helps !!

Thanks for the reply Steve

It doesnt need to be that accurate really, i just need some indication as to when to refill the cylinder.

Cheers

Gary

An in-line gauge will not tell you how much gas is in the bottle, it will only warn you when it is empty or almost empty.

Gas vaporises at a given temperature and pressure, so the pressure will only drop when there is no longer any liquid left in the bottle.

Weight is your best indicator not pressure!

**EDIT**

Weigh a full one and an empty one hey presto a fairly acurate way to tell how much gas is left.

Wet the exterior of the bottle whilst using.

In cold weather the area below the level of liquid (gas) will frost, in warmer temps it will condensate.

like the condensation frost idea JJ, but if it's not to big a shake will tell you like Ian says, surely.
