Hi All

I hope someone can help??  I need to get a hitchlock for our Erde 122 trailer, but to date I've not found anything that fits!

I've also tried a wheel clamp, but that was too big!

The key thingys that Halfords sell don't seem very secure, does anyone have experience of these?

Really need to find one before July, because we're off to the South of France and plan to stay in a hotel for one night on the way down.

You all seem a very knowledgable bunch, so any ideas?

thanks loads for any help........

we got ours from

http://www.western-towing.co.uk/acatalog/Erde_122_Accessories.html

we got the coupling lock on the above page

http://www.western-towing.co.uk/acatalog/Coupling_Locks.html

and the universal trailer hitch lock ( the yellow one WKS12) on this page

both work fine and the service from this company was good.

Jangles - thanks for asking this question, cos we have exactly the same problem - Brittany with 122 this summer with a stop over near Plymouth. Would have got round to asking this about 7 hours before we went. Thanks karin & Les for the info.

We use the Trailer Cop shown on the site posted by Bibbster. It's a bit fiddly but does the job. The Universal one is probably easier to fit.

I agree that the little key locks aren't up to much - The key itself is so flimsy that I'd be afraid of it snapping off.

Please excuse my bad manners in not replying earlier, been very busy revising for an exam, which thankfully "I think" went quite well this morning!

I went to our local forge and got them to weld a U shaped piece of metal onto the arm of the trailer underneath the hitchlock.  I then use a heavy duty motorcycle chain and chain the trailer to the car using 2 padlocks to the towbar point ensuring there is some slack in the chain for turning etc.  My witter towbar has 2 holes drilled either side which are perfect for this.   This serves 2 purposes.   1. It has so far prevented any toerag from nicking the trailer and 2. It serves as a heavy duty breakaway cable just in case for some reason the trailer every came away from the hitchlock when driving.

The forge charged me £ 5 for this
