I have recently bought a new Erde 122 and assembled it without too much drama today. However when I tried the lights the indicators worked on one side but not the other and in fact the light rather than indicator flashed at one point! Is it just a matter of turning the socket another turn or so until they work properly? Also there is one wire with a small connector on the end that doesn't seem to have anywhere to fit on to - any ideas?

I'm probably being really dense here, can anyone help please?

If you wired the socket yourself then you have missed something.  The internals and casing usually have notches so the pins sit in the correct hole.

The spare wire, may be the earth, but you don't say what colour it is.  On some sockets there is another connection point which is not directly connected to the pins.

Also try putting a bit of petrolum jelly around the plug before you out it onto the car it may not be making a connection.  Our Erde is a bit tempremental too! Give it a wiggle while your hazards are on and don't push the plug on too far as that doesn't seem to help either for some strange reason! Don't use WD40 - OH did that and flooded the plug - nothing worked until I had to dry it off - the fool!!!

If your light plugs were the wrong way around you would get the left working while indicating right etc...

The small connector if at the back of the trailer could be your number plate light ?

The Erde electrics are not as simple as that - I am sure I had exactly the same problem - connected the right colours, but Erde had put the opposite coloured plugs on and my towbar installer scratched his head for ages before I suggested trying it. I'm sure this sounds like the same problem.

Thanks for the answers - it's heartening to know it's not just me then. The spare lead didn't look like an earth and wasn't mentioned in the instructions - I wondered if it was for foglights for a luxury model. Would the other side have worked if the colour coding was wrong? Guess it's just a case of trial and error when I have time to mess around with it.
