the Vendee is the Atlantic coast of France south of Brittany. Its a good place to go camping with kiddies, sunny with long sandy beaches and a much shorter drive than the Mediterranean coast.
Self inflating mat or cellular foam camping mats cut to fit the pod floor. The second option makes a great play surface and of course he can`t roll off them and get stuck somewhere.
As for bags, get a good quality junior bag like the Vango Nitestar Midi. If it seems a bit long for a short toddler, tie a strip of fabric below where his feet end. Do get a good bag for him though. Even in the Vendee it can get pretty cold at night.
Not a lilo, he will roll off it! My little one is in a 18m-3y Grobag with a blanket over the top, will get him a proper kids sleeping bag when he's got enough sense not to get lost in it.

we went camping this weekend with our 24mth old - based on tips picked up from this site we used self inflating mats and an Aztec Swallow 250 midi sleeping bag. It was freezing and I froze in my sleeping bag but my 24mth old slept through the whole night. We also put picnic mats under the mats and our air beds and blankets directly onto the mats and airbed - again recommendations from this site - certainly stopped the cold coming up through the airbed!
we used a Vango nitestar for our daughter who is 2 now and has sadley outgrown her bag, only used it once. but she kept snug in it and didnt get cold once, does help that she acts as a radiater for the rest of us lol, i also took a lightweight duvet with us as well just in case she got cold but the only person to use it was me, have a few problems so feel the cold alot.
we also use the fleece all in ones with he feet in that the little ones use for underski suits etc as a baby grow so if she gets out of her sleeping bag she is still nice and warm from the all in one.

A balanced life is a glass of wine in each hand :O)
Get a Readybed - Woolworths, Argos etc have them and our toddler loves it. It's a small blow up bed with kids characters on it (ours is Thomas the Tank Engine) and a built-in quilt to cover them. If your destination is cold then you might want an extra cover or dedicated kids sleeping bag.
my small person hates the ready bed and has insisted on getting back into bed. Not too keen on sleeping bag either. Does like sleeping on a camping mat with the sleeping bag open over the top though,
Whatever you do try it out before you go - its a long way back from the vendee if he hates whatever you get!
