I don't think taking your teddy is strange.

We have a couple of clothes pegs for keeping large packets of crips etc closed.

And some throw away plastic cups as someone always wants a drink when there is no water to wash up. £1 shop again.

my husband takes his trusty pen knife he has named Ray ( after Ray Mears ). It is surprising how handy this can be and how often we use it on each camping trip.

A babies feeding bottle to use as a measuring jug. Takes up less space and very accurate. Get funny looks though, my kids are teenagers.

I never managed to go crabbing as a child and feel I missed out so just in case the opportunity arises I always carry a crab line (not hook kind)!

Came in handy once though, as a group of three kids camping nearby had two lines and the youngest was going to be disappointed! Out came my crab line and offered to Mum who gave it to a delighted youngster.

Must remember to replace it for myself just in case!!

but what do you measure ??

the only thing i can imagine measuring while camping would be hot water for instant mash

i love the story about the crabline :)

All sorts, hot water for instant custard, yummy on a ginger cake for pud. Water for dried  pasta  in sauce and savoury rice. On those very rare summer days I make jelly. Water for instant sponge mix baked in orange shells on the barbie, kids love doing that. Put all the ingredients in and give your marinade a good shake. I suppose you could make a martini in it if you were so inclined.

I bought a canvas hanging shoe tidy recently from The Futon Company to use in my small frame tent. I can put so much stuff in it it's amazing. It has a velvo fastener at the top which wraps around a pole near the bedroom area. It also packs down to the size of a thick novel. Cost about a tenner but well worth the easily accessable storage space. They also do a slightly larger one.

I bought two of these from IKEA as well as the rail and two of the bigger ones for clothes etc and all for under a tenner.

that would be about as inclined as i got

i am impressed with your culinary efforts. What do you cook on. I am upgrading from a couple of suitcase cookers but i don't anticipate making any jelly!

I took a trowel to dig a trench to level the furniture last time but i still had trouble stopping my stuff from rolling down the hill so i think i need a table with an edge.. like you get on ships!

Thanks, I do burn stuff though now and then.  I have a two burner camping gaz jobbie and a medium sized gas tank, a trangia and or course the ever faithful bbq. I have a suitcase cooker  for 'fast trips' theyr'e good.  I use one of those mesh rubberlike grip mats on my table to stop stuff rolling off. That and levelling things off with a rolled up piece of  cardboard or a flat stone or a bit of wood or whatever you find and go Ohhh I know what I'll use that for, then get funny looks from people as you stoop to retrieve the bit of stone, bent tin or whatever, lol. Have a go at the jelly it's fun I've made it in billies, plastic egg cartons, mess tins whatever. The kids do it for fun. Isn't always set though, but we have a laugh.

i take rolls and rolls of it!

mostly for the bedroom

and i use stones :)

but my best device was my log and a handy rabbit hole or thistle patch, for keeping my bottle of cider safe

i got some nice trays in woolies with sides and i used spongy washing up thingies for non slip tray cloths.

It was worst when it was raining and we had to retreat to the tent because you couldn't dig things into the ground to anchor them :(

Dorset slopes are a bit steep but the views are worth it!

I just fancy ginger cake and custard now .....

the people next to us had a triangia, it worked well in the wind, i was impressed.

Well ! Now that's a slope!!! Can't say I have ever had to manage on anything thing that tilted.  I think super glue would be an essential. Hats off to you. Sorry to take this off topic but is that an ultradome?

Not that strange. I bought some Thinslate fluffly slipper socks a while back and took them on my last trip. Heaven in the evenings, now we have the SIG and carpet ;)
