Im still waiting for our tent to arrive so not experienced the outdoor life yet (never been camping!!!) but my daughter (12) is off on a weeks holiday with the school on June 10th. Part of the trip is sleeping in a TeePee for a couple of nights so shes been asked to take a sleeping bag. Hubby went off with her today to get some bits for her trip and has come back with a sleeping bag from Milletts. IIts only a cheapie season 1 (eurohike voyager) but Im not sure it will be warm enough. Being the over careful mum I am Id rather get her a better one but the other half doesnt think like me and got it cos it was in the sale!! She is going to Bude in Cornwall and I have a feeling they are going to be camping on a cliff top. Whaddya reckon? do I keep it or take it back for a better one!

take it back for a better one.if the weather is like this then she will be cold.used a 3 season bag this weekend and was a bit cold in it.the temp was down to 3 degrees.its not normally cold this time of year but if shes cold she wont sleep.women feel the cold more than men .if theres a wind blowing off the sea she will feel it.get her a better one.

Get at least a 2 season.

Millets has one - a somethingorother 200 for £15. Has shoulder baffles, which is good. A 1 season cheapy is good only for the best of weather - which we dont have very much of in this country. Even in mid-summer you can get uncomfortably cold sleeping under canvas.

We are going to buy a pair of them this week after suffering a bit this weekend - and we had bedrolls, underblankets and a duvet and pillows in addition to our cheap old sleeping bags! Brrrr..!

Get a 2 season and get her a cotton liner to go inside - that can bring a 2 season bag up to 3 season if required or alternatively if there's  aheatwave she can just sleep in the innner.

A one season bag is only really good enough for sleepovers and balmy summer nights in a caravan. Get her a two season one at least, and a three season would be even better. And give her a cheap fleece blanket to take as well...she can roll herself up in it inside her sleeping bag if it gets perishing cold.

If you`re planning to go camping anyway, a good bag will be well worth the investment. And if your Hubby moans tell him he can use the thin one.

I have recently bought a "ladies" style sleeping bag (a vango)  It was £30 but well worth it. The advantage above standard bags is that it is much shorter which means that you are not losing heat by having empty space.  I also bought my husband a fleece lining bag for £4.99 from Lidls which he said warmed up his season 1 bag fine.  It may not be snuggly enough for your daughter though.  The vango is a 3 season as I hate to be cold.

Its not just the bag! Its many layers that keep you warm, make sure she has a vest on with p j's on top, pack her a thermafleece hat and gloves, good insulated socks or even better two thin pairs on and she'll be fine. I once camped in Aviemore in January in a white out in an old cloth type sleeping bag, which I should of died in, but I went into with multi layers and most importantly had a good fleece hat on!  Keep her head warm, the rest is easy!

She'll will be havin so much fun with friends it probably wont matter.

Dont worry Annie F

I agree with everyone else. I wouldn't send my kids out with a 1 season bag in the UK unless it was the height of summer and the weather wasn't going to change. 3 season is a good bet.

3 season minimum, 4 season even better, you can always unzip it to cool off, but there`s nothing worse than being cold in bed

I have a decent quality 3 seaon rated Vango Ultralite, and it states "comfort temp -1 degs C to +18 degs C, extreme temp -15 degs C". I used it last weekend and it wasn`t warm, only just comfortable enough. You don`t need to pay a fortune for a super-dooper down bag or anything, £40 will get you a decent bag.
