Got the air pillows from Morrisons £1.49 same width as household pillows,if its cold put flannelette cases on them-excellent value and best used under inflated.
If I'm in a car, I take the pillow off the bed, even sitting on it during the journey if need for space means that I have to. When backpacking, I have a small camping pillow from Decathlon. It is a bit like a cushion cover with a layer of foam in it and an open flap at the back so that it can be padded out with a spare fleece or whatever. Very warm and comfortable and only cost about £1.99.
I picked up some inflatable pillows from ASDA, and after three night of sleeping on bricks, in the early hours of the morning I tried letting some of the air out of one, and found it much moe comfortable. I found them handy in that they took up next to no space in the car, as I was without trailer or roofbox so space was at a premium. For the summer I will be taking proper pillows - two cars, roofbox and trailer.
We have been using these particular Outwell pillows and they are fine as long as you don't over inflate them.
They do contain some foam so there is a little more cushioning than regular inflatable pillows.
They are incredibly compact as well. One tip - buy a couple of cheap pillowcases to put them into. Keeps them clean and makes them feel like regular pillows rather than sleeping directly in the flock finish of the pillow itself.
The secret with inflatable pillows is not to over fill them. We've got some but i'm not keen on them. They're not very comfortable. Taking a pillow from home is a much better idea.
Just got an Intex flocked inflatable pillow from Asda for 98p! It doesn't seem too bad - we're hoping to use it under a normal pillow just to boost the height as we all usually have 2 pillows but taking 8 in the car is a bit of overkill. We'll try it out next weekend when go on our test run with our new Vermont XL and keep you posted!
