hi am going on our first camping trip in couple of weeks for weekend and wondered if two rings on a cooker are enough or do some of you use an extra ring too.going to a quiet camp so not too many facilities if cooking doesnt go to plan.dont think kids will live on bacon butties (shame) : )

For a weekend, our 3 lived on toast, coco pops (boy! do they take some getting out of sleeping bags), ham sandwiches, cooked chicken and salad. We only used the stove for tea and toast.

If you need an extra ring, the bistro stoves are £7.99 at Netto.

Serioulsy, how many times do you use more than 2 rings at home?  Even if you are cooking 2 or more veg, you can throw them all in one pan.  Since starting camping again 2 years ago, I've had 3 rings (rarely use the third though), but previously I only had 2 and I never struggled.  If you get a set of pans that are the right size for a larger pan to sit nicely on top of a smaller one, something you have already heated through will keep hot very nicely on top of another pan if you really do need the space.  Sometimes it just takes a bit of lateral thinking, but unless you are feeding the five-thousand, you should be fine with 2 rings.

I only used to have the two rings to feed six of us! Things like mash, sausage, peas and gravy and spag bol. I still take it with me but we also have a cadac too now.It does get easier the more you do it. Good luck

You should be fine with 2 rings. Just plan your meals well. 3 rings just allows you be a little bit less 'frantic'.

Preparation is everything!

I usually only use two rings - but always take one of the suitcase cookers with me, as a backup.
You will be amazed at how well you can adapt things to be cooked on just two rings.
Last week I pre-cooed the cauli, and made the cheese sauce on one burnier while the meat was cooking on the other,  I them put the cauli into the sauces for a few minutes to heat through.

OH does all the cooking when we are camping and he manages with two rings. He does juggle the pans a lot though, but he always manages.

I also have a small steamer, very handy for extra veg or for keeping things warm while other foods are cooking on the other burner

I have a steamer which fits on top of the pan so you don't need an extra pan for veg - it folds up pretty small.  Got it in a kitchen shop.

Hi Shaziebutt

We went away for the first time recently (family of 4) and managed fine with 2 rings. I did plan ahead what we would be eating, so cookered a curry on one night with boil in bag rice, spag bol the next etc. Somewhere on here is a link to lots of camping recipes...one pot stuff, I have seen it but can't remember where it is...have a search around or ask.
