Hi all,I was thinking of buying one of the portable satelite kits for the caravan but before I bought one I rang sky to ask if I could either take my sky box and use that or use my card in a new box which comes with the kit to which they say I have to have a new subscription if I take my own box to my caravan or any other is this true or is there ways and means?
ps seems stupid and money making if you cannot use your own card as only one group of people can watch at a time.

Hi

You don't need another system.

Most sky subscibers just take their box from home (and don't tell sky)

You'll need a dish (available on e-bay for just over £20 (get one that fits a pole mount)

That's it really apart from cable, connectors and pole or tripod

Check out www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk

we had fun we we registered our ondigital box (now set top boxes dont need to be registered) giving our name and address the lady said there is no coverage at that postcode,i remarked were not at that post code ,she asked if we've moved why arn't we using the new postcode?
we replied that we live at the given postcode but the box isn't there.she asked where it was right now and i said at the postcode but at the weekend will be at another maybe 2.
she asked if we were taking the pee?
we relied the person with the box lived at the postcode but the box was in a camper so had lots of postcodes.
she went silent for a while then activated it ,obviasly her brain had gone into overload

the box still doesent work at the postcode but its far smaller modern version now resides under canvas at several postcodes

those thinking of getting a sat kit from lidl or aldi etc should remember you wont get sky subscription programs on the cheap versions there is no card slot ,sky digi boxes will work but are not meant for moving about so the setting up really needs a sat finder to get good results and there are a few satellites out there to confuse you.
saying that we have several sats on our motorised system at home (lidl) so have no need of mr murdochs draconian way of doing things

Hi again

If you read David Sullivans www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk you'll see you don't actually need a satellite finder.

I've got one and don't use it because it's quicker and easier to use a compass. Point the dish due East and slowly (very slowly) turn tte dish southwards until you get a signal. Astra 2 (sky) is the first satellite you come to.

[quote]p.s is astra 2 the best satellite to point to?

depends what you want to watch! :) The $ky stuff is on Astra 2 at 28degs.

remember that your dish needs to be pretty accurately aimed (not like waving a TV aerial about) both in direction and elevation.
