There are so many people on here who have reported disatisfaction with their Cobb, that I think I'll start a survery....

If your Cobb has melted, please email me.

janeyb37 at hotmail.com

I have had no joy from Cobb UK who tried to blame me for overloading it!!!!

Cheers

Jane

i think people are putting on the lid before the heatbeads have gone completely grey... its important that you don't put it on.. this causes it to melt :O(

I never used the lid, only using it as a barbeque with only 5-7 briquettes.  The base is really distorted!  Cobb picked up my thread from here last time I posted it, then ignored my email with pictures that they had requested. It is a great bit of kit, but obviously no good if it melts.  Apparently the problem is caused when a lot of fat collects in the well, as it may ignite.

However, I think it is really interesting that they have ditched the plastic base!

I never used the lid, only using it as a barbeque with only 5-7 briquettes.

I was wondering if you can do this as I really wanted to be able to use as a bbq and poke the food around whilst standing at it having a beer don;t just want to put a lid on it and wait but I thought that it was not very efficient without the lid.

Carol

If a bbq has a lid, always cook with the lid on, the food cooks so much better and will not burn.

Have had our Cobb for nearly 5yrs now, have only ever used Heat beads ..... not had a problem ..... although for last few months have used the premier base

Cooked all sorts on it, including piece of pork that was as big as the grill plate and just managed to fit the lid on

All ways found the Cobb man very helpful

i have both bases because on the  second time using it the base popped out from the side leg. i called and was apologised to and offered the new base at a very reduced price, but i prefer the old plastic one. it does state  somewhere you have to keep it  scrupliously (sp)clean . when i come back from camp i immerse the bottom pan in a bucket of hot water with washing powder in it to remove any fat that may be there

On the scupulously clean front, after emptying out the ash, hubby washes the cobb in the morning and removes all the fat from the moat.

We had a problem with the old type solid base, it cracked, Cobb replaced it straight away, and free of charge, Brilliant piece of kit, wouldn't be without it. Although in my experience the solid base is better than the new mesh one, it cooks quicker, perhaps the extra heat might have been the old types downful?

Many thanks Graham at Cobb
