I've heard good reports about a griddle plate that sits ontop of a gas stove, sort of turns it into a bbq.

Anyone know where you can get them from, and if they are a generic type or stove specific?

We got ours from Argos. £14.99. Very pleased with it. Perfect for 2 ring stove. I have even started using it in the house.

We use one from Argos on a single-burner stove (those that come in the little case and use 'aerosol' sized gas canisters).  We put the griddle on 'sideways' so that it doesn't cover the gas compartment/control knob.  We also have a piece of Lakeland Ltd non-stick oven liner cut to size to make it REALLY non-stick.  ScampisOH uses it every morning when we are away to cook breakfast, either outside if the weather is good or in the awning - it's lovely having someone else doing the cooking!!  He can rustle up a full brunch (bacon, sausage, beans or tinned tomatoes, mushrooms, fried potatoes, black pudding, fried egg) on it - mouth watering now at the thought!!!!

We use our one from argos on a small gas barbecue for breakfast. Have to make sure its lvel or the egs run off. but its great.

I bought a Sunngas one from Go Outdoors for about £5 or £6 but have recently sold it on ebay as it didnt fit on the camp cooker very well (or the gas cooker at home). Thay are supposed to be good for most cookers but I think they are best used on the single burner type that have a little gas cannister on the side.

To stop your eggs running off, make 'eggs in nests'!!!  Take a slice of bread (a thick-cut sliced loaf is best) and cut the middle out of the slice, leaving about a half to three-quarter inch of bread all round.  Spray the hot griddle with oil (that fry-light type), put bread on griddle, spray oil onto bread and break egg into the 'nest'.  Cook until set on one side, and the bread is nicely coloured, then turn with a fish-slice (that's the fun bit, but you master it with practice!!!).   Cook the other side and enjoy!!  If you prefer, you can whisk the egg up before you put in in the bread nest, so there is no separate yolk (that how ScampisOH and Little Scamp have theirs - I prefer runny yolk!!).
