Hi - I am new to this so please be gentle with me!!!

I have a second hand aquaroll and carver water pump, my question is.....can I just fill up the aquaroll with water, add some milton and then run it rught through the water system to sterilize it - I know this wont give it the desired 30 mins contact time but it will at least help - does anyone see a problem with doing this?

Any comments appreciated - thanks

sounds like a good idea to me! just stop the pump with the lines filled with milton water and leave for 30 mins. Its the way we clean our pipes in the spring! were still alive!

You could use Milton, or any other sterilising agent.  With Milton do not let it sit in the HW tank too long.  Puriclean is safer to use in this respect.

I'd leave the Milton solution in the aquaroll for the requisite time first, then pump it through, yes. That's what we used to do at the start of every season, when we had a caravan.

You might want to then rinse out the aquaroll, we did as we could still taste it.

Puriclean is very good but I found it took a lot more rinsing away than Milton. You could use any proprietory baby bottle sterilising stuff e.g. Boots own brand. Make sure it is flushed through well on both hot and cold systems to avoid taste issues and damage to the boiler seals.

thanks for all your replies, I have sterilized it, leaving in the pipework for 30mins, and then flushed it through with a further 40ltrs afterwards. Seemed to work well, going away this weekend so that will be the taste test!!!

We never use water from the aquaroll for drinking, we have a 4 ltr bottle, which you can refill from the tap on site if you want too..at least you know its fresh, i never trusted water from the aquaroll..it sometimes tasted funny.

Thank goodness we're not the only ones who don't drink the 'fresh' water out of the Aquaroll

We use the Puriclem stuff too for doing it and the pipework but there's always that strange tang to the water afterwards. Just about put up with it for toothbrushing, otherwise drinking water comes from the 2L bottle. I can't easily lift a 4L one, so thank heavens our pitch in Cornwall this August is RIGHT beside the tap

In the past, we'd just bought the multipacks of 2L bottled water from the supermarket to use for drinking and making the tea, but it all depends how close we are to a tap

I think we will be using bottled water for drinking and aquaroll for washing up etc, seems to be the wise decision IMO.

we use milton at the start of the season before we change the water filter in the van.

we use the water from the aquaroll for dishwashing and for drinking water and water for the kettle as we use our water filter jug from home each time we go away, so it gets used quite a bit and the water tastes better after being filtered twice.

We don't have a filter, we drink the water in the van, no problems, and no funny taste!
