We have always muddled by without electric but now feel it's time to change and I have absolutley no idea what we need to buy.  I have looked at the leads on some camping websites but I'm still a bit confused - Does the lead come complete ready to use and do you have to buy special camping electric equipment to use with it (kettle, toaster, etc).

Thank You in advance.

The leads are about £50 and usually have 3 sockets on them. You can use any appliances with them, but dont use more than one high power appliance (Kettle, Toaster, Fan Heater) at once, or you will trip the site electric.

Read the guide as per Rattys instructions. Don't buy a cheapie from Ebay (unless you want frizzy hair and being barred from some camp sites). Expect to pay £45 to £50 for a triple socket that is safe to use. Skimp on everything else but not the electrics!

it is fine for lights, fridge etc, al was meaning appliances which use a lot of power, ie electric fires, cookers, kettles etc, most household appliances which generate heat use a lot of electricty and should be used one at a time, on lowest setting if possible, or they can easily trip site electrics.

£50 for unit which is ready to use.  Visit your localc camping shop and for £5 you can buy an adapter so you can run unit from mains at home (makes excellent garden extension).  try to find low wattage appliances.  We have travel kettle at 400w, toaster at 600w and a heater which can run as low as 400w but up to 1200w if nothing else plugged in.

Wouldn't be without EHU now...

We use a cheap Argos kettle at 1700W which is fine on a 10A hook up but pushing it a bit on 6A. We also have an argos toaster at 1200W and an oil filled radiator that can be set to 600W or 900W or 1500W. We never have more than 1 high power item on at once, its not hard to work it right.

We also have a table top fridge 68W and then low energy light.

I can't see the point in having a ketlle below 1KW / 1000W as even if your voltage is down to 220V it would still only take 4.5 Amps.

All info is from a data sheet my hubby did for me to see what we could safely use on EHU

.

Suz

Noticed this EHU today, which is more user-friendly with that handle, perhaps?
