In the hunt for some kit as I'm a newbie!

went into my local aldi today and they were selling some self inflating mats!

Are they any good?

I have used the blow up matress type things before and found them uncomfortable.

The mats in Aldis were only 9.99, worht buying?

Have known people buy them and be happy but they were small and lightpeople or buying for kids.

If you are taller and heavier you are probably best off investing a bit more in something a bit bettr: the Far Airic from Alpkit gets a lot of votes, and there area bunch of others. If you do a search of the tent and equipment message board on sleeping mats or self-inflating you'll find this comes up all the time and have more answers than you can handle!

The Fat Airics are out of stock till the middle of July apparently. The Outwell self inflating one at 7 cms may be an option....

I bought the Aldi ones for the kids and took them back - bought them regular airics from Alpkit instead.  Haven't tried them out yet other than the living room floor but they seem pretty comfy.  Didn't like the quality of the Aldi ones but it's a personal choice (I think we were spoiled having the Fat Airics ourselves).

We paid a similar price for some self-infalting ones from Lidl and have been very pleased with them, for the money. (I know you get what you pay for!)

Best nights sleep camping I have had is one of these on top of a cheap Argos cam-bed.

Thanks for the replies and all your opinions and options have been noted.

I am however going to opt for the Aldi ones. This is a cost effective option, as I have got to buy lots of other stuff tomorrow. The Fat Airics are an option for the future when I've got a little more cash.

At present I have a budget of £100 and need tables, chairs, sleeping bags and mats

Why not take your duvets from home instead of buying sleeping bags yet?

We used to use sleeping bags, but have now changed to using a 13.5 tog duvet. We're toasty warm & no messing about with zips when you need the loo during the night
