I am thinking of purchasing a 'Campingaz Camping chef', however I was about to make the purchase when the wife pointed out it operates off 901/904 &907 campingaz cylinders, which is fine but I alreadiy have a 4.5kg Calor bottle for my existing stove & I don't fancy paying out for the campingaz cylinder. Am I right in thinking that I can use my existing bottle on this new stove despite what it says about 901/904 & 907?

You just need to buy a Calor Gas regulator for your new stove. It is the regulators that differ. Not the stoves or bottles. We have run our Campingaz Lagon on a Calor 4.5 bottle. Campingaz would obviously like you to buy their gas as well so they dont point out that they can run on any gas as long as you fit the right regulator.

Calor and Campingaz are the same gas, both refilled by Calor in the UK.  The only difference is connection on the cylinder, so a different regulator is required.

Not a problem if you have a 4.5kg calor cylinder and a regulator to fit it will work fine with the stove that you have mentioned I have that stove and at the moment I use the 907 but have looked at the switch to calor so that is why I can say that you will be ok

I wouldn’t recommend that you hold your breath whilst waiting for the camping chef to make your toast

It says in the instruction book that you can’t use the two hob rings when the grill is in use so it is one thing at a time and I always end up waving the toast around under the flame trying to speed things up a bit

watch this one with interest, we have borrowed one for past 2 years and are getting ready to buy our own but would prefer one with half decent grill!

I have used one of these for the last few years and manage a full English for 4 on it. Have made toast whilst cooking and will do burgers etc or just keep things warm. Did a full English for 6 over the weekend and was fine and will use either Campingaz or Calor butane. Got mine from Argos in the sale but they seem to be everywhere.
