Hello All

We've never had a self inflating mat before and have seen the 10cm thick Robens Mats for sale at Go Outdoors.  Can anyone tell us whether Robens are OK (as we've never heard of them) or whether anyone has one of these mats and if it's any good before we purchase please?

Thanks...

Hi

Don't know about them but we have just bought Outwell self inflating mats from Go Outdoors and they are great!

Robens is yet another company within the Outwell Group. I have one of the mats and frequentlly use it when I go camping with my Scouts even though they accuse me of being soft. I actually used it last weekend on a family camp in Cornwall and while I would say it is 90% comfortable compared to an airbed it is actually quite a bit warmer as if offers more insulation. It held pressure welll thoughout the night and I released the valves in the morning to refresh it. The only problem I had was with my sleeping bag which is a Vango Nitestar with a silky type outer which made me slide to one side on the mat. Fortunatley the OH was on an airbed next to me so I stayed on the mat but otherwise this could be a problem. I also have a Fat Airic which I bought after the Robens and it is 7.5cm but have yet to try this one out. If you are comfortable with getting up and down from an airbed then you will not find a self inflater much of a problem

Nigel, we have bought some cheap stretch-terry type fitted sheets, designed for narrow bunks (i.e. caravan) and are hoping they will stay on the Fat Airics and reduce sleeping bag slide!

Got ours from Tony's Textiles, I think about £2.99 each.

Just got back from a Cub camp where I again slept on my 10cm Robens self-inflating mat.  I find it very comfortable.  I'm at an age where even sleeping on a different bed at a friend's house can cause me to wake up in the middle of the night; no such problem with this mat.

We bought them and slept on them last night.

Only thing that got me up in the night was drinking too much before I went to bed!!! :)

I might let a bit of the air out next time - was a little firm, but I did top it right up by blowing into it after it had self inflated.

We were also sleeping on a slope so we kept sliding downwards!!!

I too just got a couple of Outwells for £14.50 each including P&P (Go outdoors)and they're great. Just for sitting on they make a big difference insulation wise, and they're really comfortable to sleep on providing you're not on a slope and end up slipping off as mentioned earlier. Compared to the cheapo foam mats we were using previously I can't recommend them highly enough.

Hi

Iv'e got the Fat Airic, and we put it inside a fleece sleeping bag liner, and pull the drawstring tight and dont have a problem with the sleeping bag slipping about, my son is also going to sleep on the liner with his quilt in summer.

Happy camping
