Hi peggie - a lot of sites don't allow gazebos as they are not intended for camping use and are not sturdy and stable enough - and once loose and blowing around they cna do an awful lot of damage to tents and cars etc. (I hope that explains Wildie's rather emphatic comment above!)

Most folk on here go for a small utility tent (like the Outdoor Revolution Outhouse) or a full on day tent, though at 3mx3m that is a lot to fit on a pitch alongside a big tent. If you search these boards for thread on these items you will find lots of recommendations.

They are notoriously flimsy and there have been stories posted on this site of people's tents being damaged or ruined by an other camper's gazebo being blown into it.

It's more expensive, but I recently got this .  Seems to be as solid and sturdy as a tent, a good size and will provide shelter from sun or rain.  Being stuck inside a tent in persistent rain can be depressing but this will provide shelter but with an open perspective.  Also, being inside a tent during hot sun can be stifling but this will provide shelter but allow any breeze to flow.

and in all weathers, its acted as a sun shade as well as a rain shelter. We have used it with tents, folding camper and even with our caravan sometimes as a gathering place / eating place. With the sides up i have even used the Cadac in there when raining.

Problem: more and more sites are banning these for "fire safety reasons" (probably to do with the insurance.)

so it's a no to a gazebo then?

Why is so easy for them to blow away, surely if pegged down correctly it shouldn't be any worse than a big tent blowing away?
