hello everyone.....

Could someone help me please. We're using EHU for the 1st time this camping trip but are having a disagreement about what you can run on it. I basicly need to use an iron, hairdryer and light. Can I use domestic appliances or do I need to buy special equipment designed for camping?

Help greatly appreciated

Thank you Samantha

Most EHU are 10A, but check with the site.  So you can run most things apart from larger electric fires.  Iron, hairdryer, lamps etc. are fine, but avoid using the drier and iron together.  Domestic appliences are OK IF you are sure they will stay bone dry.  Electric fires are potentially dangerous if they can be knocked over or have clothes or bedding fall on them.  I use a low power oil filled radiator.  There are convector heaters which switch off if knocked over - designed for use in caravans.  I would still not leave an electric fire on when you go to bed.  You can use a microwave on its own, nothing else running; they are only a little over 50% efficient so pull a lot more amps than you mighht imagine.  (6+ rather than 3+ for a 750W model.)

We only use one domestic appliance at any one time ,if we put the warm air heating on we only have it on low if we are boiling the kettle ,From another Top- Dog!

Compromise and look for low wattage domestic appliances.  We have picked up a low wattage toaster from Sainsburys and a low wattage kettle from Aldi.  Both on togther are only 1100watt.  Biggest sucker of leccy this summer will be George grill but we'll use it without anything else (might even unplug the cool box for 15 minutes whilst its on)
