Has anyone got any good ideas on how to store valuables on a long caravan holiday (other than just carry them round!). I was wondering about fitting one of those small home safes. Anyone done this or anything else please! Anna
I have bolted in a locking cash tin that is big enough to hold things such as passports, phones, as well as cash. I would normally carry things with me but we are often on the beach surfing and guess things are safer locked in the van. I've got a campervan so there is some metal around to bolt the tin to - not sure about a caravan. I've also put the tin in a really inaccessible place in a locker - difficult enough for me to get to but virtually impossible to get anything in to lever the tin open.
I bought a small safe from 'screwfix' and put it under the seat with the leisure battery, you just fix it to the floor, it would take a lot of hard work to get it out, and they are quite heavy.
Got a battery - emptied the acid out - washed it out - cut out the base - fitted cash box and welded it onto a chassis member - placed battery over the top and now it looks like it's part of the leisure battery bank, even to the extent that it looks like it's cabled in.
Mind you, Robbers take one look at my van and usually leave money, food, clothing etc...
got my mini safe from robert dyas the hardware shop it is realy neat and strong it is fairly small so you can hide it very easy and the bolts are covered when the unit is locked i paid £8-99
