Have you thought about using the poles slightly differently? You could make one pole a lot taller than the other so the tarp in the classic ridge tent configuration would have quite a steep slope to it giving you the head height at one end for standing under and cooking, and then using the rear end which has less head height for storage. If you faced the low end into the wind it would also give you shelter from the wind so your cooker won't blow out.
