Hiya folks,

I have an inverter, it's a 500watt one. I have been trying out in the car and it works well. I wondered if someone could advise me on something I have come up with, you'll have to bear with me, I'll explain this as easy as I can without confusing you, or myself

I want to set it up and then using a double plug, plug into it a battery charger and an extension lead. The charger I would run straight back to the car battery so that it is continually charging whilst I am running whatever I am using on the extension lead. So basically even though the inverter is connected to the car battery and using it's power the charger would be using the batteries own power to recharge it therefore making a loop.

Hopefully that makes enough sense that someone will understand and let me know if it'll work. I have been told that it will work by a friend of mine, but i'm still not sure.

I really wouldnt advise that, as I had the same theory for the electric fork lift trucks in work but after speaking to the engineer he said (big no no) wouldnt tell me exactly why, but I gather by the look on his face it could cause some serious damage!!!! I think its something classed as "reverse charging" something like that anyway.

as is always said ye dont get owt for nowt what would happen in a very short time is the battery will discharge and nowt will work , if your idea worked dont you think we would all have a big battery in our sheds at home and then tell the electric board to take a running jump its a pitty it dont do it like you said

inverters are pretty dire in converting 12v to 240 and chargers are pretty bad converting 240v to 12v add to that the loss in the wires and you will soon run down the battery.Add to that the "dirty" voltage/current from the charger going into the inverter and that will become upset to.
its physics and as yet the perpetual engine stil hasent been invented

Yes and if you put a pipe from the exhaust of your car to the engine air inlet it will turbocharge the engine...............NOT!!!!!!!!!!!
