On the downside, the ones that are made of plastic, bend 'orribly in stoney ground and then you have to use metal ones. Unfortunately you will probably be like me and not realise how bad the ground is, until you have bent your expensive delta pegs.

We have now switched over to Wurmi Screw In Pegs. Not so likely to damage them and a lot easier to put in and screw out.

If you google Delta pegs their site comes up. After our tent was damaged in a gale a couple of weeks ago I'm definitely going to get some. Losing a £1 or two on damaged pegs is cheaper than replacing a tent! I'll probably only use a few delta pegs and use them on the guy ropes.

Hi milliehill and welcome to UKCS a most addicitive website. We have the plastic deltas and use them everytime we camp. Never broke or bent one in two years yet.

Anyone that tries to hammer plastic pegs into stony ground is wearing their baseball cap back to front!

If in doubt, test the ground with a cheap pin peg, if it's stony use rock pegs, in softer ground use Delta Ground Anchors. The truth is though, that any sensible camper carries a selection of pegs for varied types of pitch. I'm sure Wurmi Pegs are excellent, but they're more expensive than Delta Pegs, more difficult to set and remove and require some form of spanner. I'm sure they have their place in the camper's armoury of pegs, but when the wind picks up I'd sooner have Delta Pegs on the end of my guys.

I bought some deltas for my guyful (as on it has many guys (17)) tent. I bought 16 (they are sold in 4's or 8's) cost around £40 but I though tent cost me £250 so its a small price to pay for the reasurance of exceptional pegs.

Definatly worth buying some rock pegs it makes things so much quicker to peg down in stony ground as alot of suff it can just bash straight through (especially if you use a hammer), also they don't need sraightening out once you have finished with them!!

Those rock pegs are just ordinary nails with a plastic bit to hook your guy line onto. If you hammer them into really hard ground they won't come out - the plastic bit breaks up, and you'll end up hammering them right into the ground and leaving them behind.

Real rock pegs are made of "T" section drawn steel of about 3mm section, and are rather expensive. Some have a welded ring, others a steel cross pin, so removal should not be a problem.

SHOCK HORROR

We actually had a Delta pull out of the ground in some serious rain and wind down Cornwall week before last. The strap just pulled it through the soil, admittedly the ground did have the consistendy of porridge. It has not put me off them though, they are the dogs doo dahs.

I think Deltra pegs are the best system you can get for normal ground conditions. I have never had to pitch on stoney ground so I cannot comment on that. I rely on Deltas because the design is such that when you apply force to the peg that a guy line exerts, it actually pulls the peg further into the ground. No peg will work relaibly in soft ground and windy conditions, but the Delta is a far better alternative to the standard wire pegs that are commonly supplied with todays modern tents.

Are the metal deltas suitable for stony ground?  I've just bought a mixture of both kinds to take with us as we don't know what the ground will be like.  Was only planning to delta the guys and just use normals on the inner, is this right?
