Can anyone recommend a good camping shop near Newcastle upon Tyne? We live in the south east but are visiting relatives in North Tyneside for a few days then going camping the day after we get home. We need to buy a table and chairs and a few other bits and pieces for the camping trip but won't have time when we get back. Camping on Tyne sounds quite big and well stocked from their website, but does anyone have any other recommendations? I don't mind up to an hour or so from Newcastle, especially if the location is good for a day out. Or alternatively if anyone knows a good camping shop close to the M1 which we could stop off at on our way there or back, Thanks for your help, Catherine
United British Caravans on sandy lane, gosforth is where I get all my stuff from. I havent put their link on because it just deals with awnings. But you can buy all camping stuff there.
I would definately recommend UBC like troddy we have bought the majority of our stuff there also there is another thread similar to this one and has some other places mentioned to in the Sunderland area.
If you're travelling up the A1 beyond Leeds (and how else are you getting to Newcastle?!), Barrons at Darlington is only about 10 minutes from the A1 (J 58, A68 towards Bishop Auckland) and their accessory shop is pretty well stocked. They are geared up for caravan and motorhome camping, but the shop is pretty good for tables and chairs, etc.
I have used both Barrons at Darlington and UBC at sandy lane and UBC are cheaper by far with a much better range of gear. It's a bit like "Auntie Wainwrights" on last of the summer wine! All higgldy-piggledy but it's there somewhere and if you get the mad Scotswoman to serve you it's great fun but she is very knowlgeable.
