Hi all,

I've been researching camping recipes on net (I know, it'll probably still just be camping stew & bbq!) and found some suggestions for cooking breakfast/eggs in zip lok bags dropped into boiling water! Sounds like it has the potential for being very messy but i like the idea of scrambled-type eggs without battling to clean my lightweight (non-non-stick) saucepan!

I found some Baco Zip 'n' Seal bags in my kitchen drawer, do you think these are the same? It says they are extra thick, heavy duty and I was wondering if they would do the job. Not sure if the recipes came from an American website & whether their sort of zip lok bags are different to ours?!

If anyone has tried this or knows if they are the right bags, could they let me know to help avoid a nasty mess in Poole next week!

Thanks, sam.

Perhaps the only way to be sure is to have a trial run at home. Just put an bag in a pan of boiling water and see if it can take it! If that works, then try the egg idea - i would be concerned about it picknig up a plasticy taste, so i would defo do a test one.

Yes it does work but you need to put  a drop of olive oil or a knob of butter into the bag or the egg sticks to the bag.

You don't need ziplock bags either. Use bigger plastic bags & tie a knot in the end. Or leave it open and make sure it doesn't fall into the water.

Been doing it for years, though my wife did think me mad when I first suggested it!

Ditto the above. Been doing it since we were kids. Either beat the eggs first or just break into the bag for a more 'poached' type egg.

We tend to use cheap sarnie bags and bin them rather than wash up (not very eco friendly I know, but hell, everything gets recycled at home anyway...remind me why I pay council tax again.....). You can also mix in a bit of tomato ham cheese mushroom too for instant breakie!
