trouble is their not sensitive enough ,they can find the signal but not peak it like a scale version its ok for astra but falls down on other less powerfull satellites but for £3 good enough for a rough position.
weve just upgraded our lidl sat reciever ,for the money its extremely good but limited in its use our new one has card and cam slots so sky and other scrambled channels can be viewed (with the appropriate subscription ofcourse)
as we cant get freeview the lidl reciever will be installed in the bedroom.
just tweaking the new one to get more satellites
If your setting up your satellite tv system(and before anyone says oooo we never take a tv with us ,we do and when its raining its been a godsend) you attatch it inline and as you turn your dish it helps you locate the sat.
There is a graph on most if not all decoders which is usually more reliable than the satellite finders. They will also differentiate between satellites which th satellite finders won't. Why not get a motor to set it up automatically. You see them for about £50.

How do you manage to get sky without their box?? Thought the viewing card and box were paired up, i.e you cannot use your card in someone elses box??
Faltbloke, have you got the 0dB/-6dB switch on the back set correctly? It should also make a beep that changes in pitch depending on the signal strength.

yes i have no problem peaking the signal but that isnt really good enough for getting the best out of your dish ,good enough for high powered sats on a fixed dish but no so for the moving ones.
the best way of getting the best from a motorised dish is to tweak a weak satellite then when it moves across the horizon you know its perfectly aligned for all the rest.
tweaking on astra because its so powerfull leaves you with a cm or two it can move whist still getting full scale on the finder even with the sensitivity turned down
on the weak sat its the opposite with the sensitivity turned up full theres not enough led's so the difference between them (the signal intensity) is large especially on a 1.8mtr dish compared to a 80cm one

you officially cant but theres far more up there than sky ,sky is just a tiny collection amongst thousands
I use a piece of cardboard with a cheap compass glued on it ,the satelite angles are marked off on it, I place this under my dish line it up north to south, and then just turn the dish arm to whatever satelite angle I want.
