I love the light from the Halogen heater. It givesd a wonderful warm glow that lights up the tent and gives a wonderful warm feeling - like a real fire.
It's not as warm in a tent as a fan heater, as we discovered at April, but it did change the temperature, even then. We stopped taking ours becasue of the space, but may take it again now I;'ve remembered it just for the wonderful glow!
We actually take both - one for the glow and one for the warmth (OH thinks we dont run both at once just in cast it trips the leccy but on some sites it can be done. Very carefully).
I am so glad I am not the only one who finds the halogen not as warm as it looks.

Its all down to personal preference I think. I prefer the fan heater for a couple of reasons - 1. you can leave it on thermostat all night and 2. The last time we took it on a camping trip with friends they were concerned we might be mistaken for an aircraft landing light. I notice they didnt refuse to sit near it though! Halogens are very bright to the extent that sometimes you can get away without any other lighting. Ok til you realise that you are giving the rest of the campsite a "shadow puppet" show while you try to get changed in the tent.

do you charge much for you Puppet Show then Pauline
we used a halogen for the first time this year and have to say it was rubbish, and apart from not needing any additional light in the tent (or the two pitches either side of us) made little difference to the temperature in the tent, so next year its back to a good old gas heater for us.
Thank you all for yours replies I have now gone and bought a small electric oil filled radeater has anyone used one of these. We are going to tenby on monday. June bloodfairy.
very happy with our halogen heater, warms tent up a treat and like the comforting glow too, don't need a light on. Also like the safety aspect, if it falls over it cuts out.

I have both a Halogen Heater and an oil filled Rad. Haven't used them yet, but will be doing so next week at Kiln Park. Will post to let you know how I get on.
Don't listen to your mothers though, they will tell you not to use Halogen Heaters!!
