I bet the burger broiler would be good for doing toast though - just load the bread and hold it over the flame - hmm. I might pop down to Somerfield and clear them out and sell them to the poor unfortunates I see using the folding toaster...

This is exactly what we do for toast.  It works well but you have to hold it at the right height to get an even brown coverage.  Unfortunately, we didn't discover this until after we had bought the obligatory toaster.

I used to have a really good concertina water carrier which actually poured at a reasonable speed but it got lost when we moved.  I replaced it with one of those that looks like a thick plastic bag.  It made the water taste awful and took 1/2 an hour to fill the kettle.  We just use old 5 ltr mineral water bottles now.

I also fell for the 12volt kettle.

I am really not sure why everyone is knocking the toaster.  Personally I think I would say a cooker with a grill is worse, it takes up a lot of room and is ultimately useless. I have found that using the toaster is far better than the grill, but use thick bread.
Yay- it's only taken 11 pages for someone to come to the toaster's rescue!  Hoping to get away tomorrow for a night or two so will be able to test mine out then.  Maybe it won't turn out to be the worst £2.95 OH ever spent after all...

My vote goes to 12 volt kettles -20 mins to get luke warm water and a flat battery.

"nd vote goes to electric but zappers which cerainly attracts midges but fails to kill them. If used inside the tent the out side gets covered in them and when you swith it off they then decide the inside of the tent is a source of warm blood. Meals on wheels for those of us with trailer tents.

My worst buy was the bottle of Budweiser I bought my (now) mrs that fateful night in 1998. Turned out to be the most expensive drink I ever bought.

Cheep folding water carrier from Netto.

After a few days of complaining that Cornish water tasted of TCP, our 10y/o read the instructions: "wash out with warm water and bicarbonate of soda" ????????????

An airbed (the box style, red and blue) that has the tiniest hole to inflate (like you'd get on arm bands). Completely flattens the charger trying to inflate it but in its defence has never gone down (mostly because we have given up and relegated it to 'camping reject corner' with all the old tents etc).

Many years ago Ibought a cheap imitation Primus stove. The solder holding the legs on melted leaving holes in the parafin tank. The parrafin ran out and we had fire.

An electric butt zapper?  Oh the fun we could have with one of those!
