So Karen, do you not require an ariel to pick up the signal when you use your laptop and digital dongle (oooh err missus !!) as some sites in the Lakes have fairly poor reception (thinking Park Foot for one)
By the way, thanks for checking out Keswick site for me. Brilliant place !!!

No problem! That is what friends are for!lol

The dongle (yup...ooer missus....but unfortunately very small and hard...lol) has an ariel wih it and we have not had any problems getting a signal...and..remember...because of the demography of the Lakes...we are going to be first int he country to get digital..

I have a mini travel TV which can run off mains/12v and to be honest the picture reception is usally pretty crap..

I also have a Sega Game Gear (On old 1980s veriosn of the nintendo DS for those too young to remember) with a TV tuner add-on.  All it has is an extending aerial, like to ones you get on radios and I usually get a fairly good picture.  Unfortunately it dont get digital!!!

(guess we might have to think about leaving the telly at home )

SC

I have had many entertaining times setting satellite TV up for peopl at the end of their tether and convinced that they had faulty equipment

We are restricted with HRH having Parkinsons and her active day reducing all the time. Its now down to about 3 hours in bursts so yes I do set the Sky dish on arrival and we now have 2 TVs so that she can go to bed early and watch football--always sends her to sleep etc etc

No doubt it horrifies some people but we don't let that worry us

My satellite dish has prompted more conversation on sites than if I didn't have it. People are always stopping by and asking questions like, how easy is it to set up?, how much did it cost, where's the reciever etc. etc.

Spent quite a pleasurable afternoon last Wednesday whilst reading my book in my van I glanced outside to see the man opposite trying to line up his satellite dish, after what must have been 2 hours of him coming & going he must have got a satisfactory signal. Later that evening upon our return from the site club I had to chuckle as I noticed his dish & tripod had been blown over in the wind!

Well we've just leased a seasonal tourer for the rest of the season, which has a sat/sky dish set up BUT we don't have sky at home. So as u'll guess we R considering purchasing Sky for home and taking the box with us when we travel to the 'van, which incidentally is in the Lakes and we cannot get a picture on our portable t.v. at the moment.

I spent 2 weeks up there in August and because the weather was good i didnt miss the t.v., just listened to the radio and read a book. However with autumn creeping in i think we could do with t.v for the dark nights. One offer i have seen is get sky for a one-off purchase price for 6 months for £79.00 + p&p. If after 6 months you no longer want to subscribe the box switches to freeview channels. Any-one got any info on this offer??

Cheers!

While under contract to sky, you are contractually obliged to keep the digibox connected to your phone line. To put the box in the caravan does put you in breach of contract. No, I would never ever do such a naughty thing
