I want to buy some camping chairs. Many available look to me like they may damage the groundsheet if used in a tent. Some have four single tubular frame legs and although each leg has a plastic cover the weight will be directly on each inch or so of frame and likely to dig into the groundsheet. Others (the fold into a bag type) have a plasitc triangular foot on each leg. Can you advise me please as to the best type of chair to use inside a tent.
I've been pondering over this for a few weeks now and am thinking about buying inflatable chairs (only to be used in the tent), but this would be yet more kit to find room for in the trailer/roof box/boot.
I have to say that over the years we have had an assortment of different camping chairs in various designs, but have never had a problem with any of them damaging our groundsheet. In our quest for comfort we now use Carp fishing chairs with adjustable legs.

Why not put a couple of picnic rugs down first. It protects and insulates at the same time.

This is what we do. In our case we have short Axminster runners which were bought for £5 each at an outdoor market. We have just bought a 2-tread step which causes an even worse problem. Although having rubber feet, their support area is so small that they progressively "dig in". To combat this, we have decided to get one of those rubber door mats obtainable from such outlets as B&Q, and place this under the step.
Although we haven't a SIG in our tent, we replaced our fold up chairs last year for 2 blown up chairs ,but find they are very hard to get out of ,the ones we have are the lowdown bum type.We bought expensive ones ,thinking they would be better, but we went back to the fold ups.As said earlier carpets are the best to protect your SIG.

We had the same proble, with our steps damaging the ground sheet. We just got hold of some rubber suckers that go on the end of awning poles and fitted them to the legs. Now no problem.
Some great ideas. I do agree that the rugs help, we have the outwell one for our tent. However, we don't have one for our porch groundsheet and those chairs have never damaged the sheet, and to top it off, my father in law is a scootcher in his chairs.
Thanks all for the advice. I think that I will buy a couple of rugs and see how things go. Its great to have such a resource as this website where as a new camper I can seek advice. Thanks again.
