Sorry Nigel cant aswer your question, but the best and by far the cheapest navigation system is the philips road atlas, price £1.99 from most book clearance shops never let me down, and it has the advantage of all camping and caravan sites marked with little blue icons.

.ellroy.    ps hope someone can help you.

Sounds like you're putting off-road coordinates in. Yes, they do tend to struggle when they can't find a road or POI from their internal map. You may have to just type it into http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ and and look the nearesr A-road. "51.178816N,1.826563W"

I also find they struggle if you record your car's current position in 'favourites' when the car isn't actually on a recognised road. Although it records it, it will never find it again and will get you to the closest A-road then drive you round and round as it recalculates looking for a corner inside a barrel!

If it's TOM TOM, you can add an offroad navigator to correct this (but I can't vouch for this) backup your device before adding and don't hold me responsible for any consequential loss, dead-ends or driving across stonehenge!

I would go with the advice: Buy a map
