Hi all.
You can buy most things for a tent, but a good ground sheet to fit an average size tent over the full footprint is nigh impossible, at a reasonable price.
The size I need to fit my Cabanon Andorra with a 6" upturn all around and can be cut to fit in my zip on extension is 5m x 5M.
Standard PCV may go to 6m long with maximum width 2.5m
Poly tarps are no good as ground sheets full stop, they are only any good for keeping your ground sheet clean.
Anchor Supplies have a new Ex military rubberized one but costs £175
So after surfing the net for the past six weeks to replace the ground sheets damaged at Graffham I can only come up with the Flexiliner from Pondkeeper.co.uk
These liners are made from a re-enforced LDPE sheet You can hole them Like any ground sheet, but they do not rip like rubber and PVC, and are 100% waterproof. Cost I have just paid £37.20 for a 5x5 meter sheet and that is inclusive of vat and carriage.
The military are now using LDPE for ground sheets now so that also as given me confidence to get one.
All the best.
Rex.

Hi denise.
The liner arrived today, as you say it is quite flexible
and seams like it will do the job. I wont know how good until it is fitted next year. Val as refused point blank to go camping for the new year but April is only 5 months away, what a long time
All the best.
Rex

Does it weight a ton, Rex? Only reason we have never looked for one big enough to cover the entire floor area of our Espace is the weight and bulk issue; we find it easier to take two separate ones (and will take bolon for the living area, sometimes).

Hi Liddenham
No the weight is equivalent to a Poly tarp of the same size. I thought as you but was pleasantly surprised.
and as they say you can cut it to any shape without the fear of it fraying or ripping. When I think of how many PVC tarps I have had that got riped and you could peg through without fitting a eyelet. But as I said you would still have to treat it like all ground sheets by checking the pitch before laying it down. But that goes without saying to experienced campers.
Regards
Rex

I would like a beige coloured ground sheet pvc to fit my Cabanon Aruba. Does anyone know where I can get one I need about 5m x 6m. I want it to fit the whole tent area. I might go for the pond liner but not sure. Is it black Rex?

Thanks

Hi gingerlily.
Yes I am afraid so. You could check out Anchor Supplies for ex army rubber ones but the new one they have is £170.
It is possible to glue two PVC ones but I think they are mostly light grey, and would be quite heavy for the size you need.
All the best
Rex

would one of these flexiliners be good as a footprint under a tent with a SIG??? or is it a bit "overkill" and better to use some plastic sheeting??

i'm new to all this footprint stuff so don't laugh too loudly if i've made myself look silly

Hi Maver
Yes I think it would be. You could cut it to the exact shape that you require, it will not rip although you could puncture it but it is easily repaired with a good tape.Yes in my opinion it would make a first class footprint ground sheet.
Regards
Rex.
