Yep, have to agree, I remember when DVD players first came out they were a fortune, now you can pick one up for the same price as the DVD to go in them!

Agree with the fuel thing though, can't believe the difference, up until last week we had 3 cars and a motorbike, just got 3 cars left now but our weekly fuel bill is huge,

Its nice to be able buy these electrial items as its so cheap now,  so in turn its too easy  not get them repaired and dump in the landfill. All the mess we are dumping now for our future generations to sort out and put up with !! ! !. Rather like sweeping the dirt under the carpet. I also as much to blame as the next person in buying all these electrial goodies.

We replaced a lot of the electrial gear in our caravan this year.

  • Toaster £4.99
  • Kettle £4.75
  • Iron £4 odd
  • Microwave £25
  • Hoover £17
  • Full size domestic fridge £89
  • Couple of lamps £4 each

Picked up one of the Argos £9.99 dvd's too.

We did take all the old stuff to the recycling centre so we did try to be green.

Hi all.
Hear is something you may want to follow up.
Switch over to digital ID-TV Between 2007 and 2012.
Why are TV with digital boxes built inside, side and digital top boxes becoming cheaper by the week. When we are all going to be requiring this type of receiver over the next couple of years. The type of box used now is a ID-TV box and the same that is built into most TV sets that claim to have digital receivers they do not, they have analogue receivers and pick up the digital signals exactly the same way as a digital top box. One or two expensive TVs and I mean a 28 inch Sony with a true digital receiver will cost you £800 plus.
But here is the crunch. In 2009 Your ID-TV television you have just bought or your new top box will be out of date, as the new DVB-T2 and MPEG-4 is coming in then.
and there is a good possibility the new TV or Digital top box will not work.
The information I have just past on as been gleaned from the web and is available to all who care to check it out.
So I would think carefully before buying TV receiver of any kind at present, unless your area is changing over imminently then buy the cheapest top box that will do the job.
I am not a qualified television expert, all the information is available if you care to find out.
Best regards
Rex.

Well put Rex.

We have a cheap fta satellite receiver and an even cheaper (tesco special) telly at the moment.

We are hanging on as long as we can with the intention of buying a HD satellite receiver when there is enough HD telly being broadcast to warrant the outlay.

There is talk of satellite broadcasters and maybe even Freeview launching HD channels as early as next year. This would make all the integrated tv's and set top boxes obselete already.

Mind you, this is true of most electronic equipment these days. By the time you have got it home from the shops, it's out of date.

Hi Ivan
Yes I built this PC 14 months ago at a cost of 3,000 At the time it was one of the most powerfully you could put together with retail parts, and that is for what is in the tower alone.
It will still run all the games without trouble but I will have to update my video cards next year to run DirectX 10,and that is the only hardware update I can do
Well I could put faster RAM in but it would not help much .
But to stay on top another £3000 is required new MOBO CPU
1000w psu and new ram, but not for me, I will fit one new 8800 extreme around £450 and that is the lot.
And as for TVs we do not officially change until 2010 and we have a free view box built in with the TV we have had for a couple of years, So we also will not be buying for a couple of years at least.
Even the tents are changing every year now, The only thing that stays the same is my pension.
Regards
Rex

Or how much someone in the far east is being paid for a days work to make them. Initially I was loving all these really cheap items but I'm not so sure now. I'd rather pay an extra few pounds if it meant others weren't being expoited.
