Have got both types of metal framed beds mentioned on here. We have the "luxury" folding aluminium ones, and the boys have the others.
The cheaper ones are OK, but really only for lighter weights, and they are closer to the ground. Good if you are lighter & on a budget!!! They also take up very little room, and once you get the hang of putting them together, they don't take very long. We use them when we visit MIL's for the boys to sleep on. They can "flick up" if you sit on the end, so watch for that.
We have the aluminium ones, and they are good. If you can afford to go for the widest ones that are about £35.00, then do. We have the ones that are £20 by Sunncamp(Towsure a couple of summers ago). You do need to use them a few times before they are easy to get the end pieces on. They also don't take up tons of room once folded up. Also, you can sit on them whilst you are getting dressed. You can only use them if you have sufficient head height, as ours only just go in our big dome tent, and we can't use them in the Quechua seconds tents. As already mentioned, great for putting bags under out of the way. They are quick to erect, and less noisy than an air pump!
Hope that helps!
