ive been offered a second hand Erde 121 with extra height sides. its 4ft X 3ft with apparently 2ft 5 height.
its £230. worth it do you think? or can i buy more for that sort of money.
we've got a 4 X 3 trailer at the mo, but just with 16" high sides, and we've outgrown it now (as you always do as you buy more and more gear :-)
on our last holiday, i saw a chap who'd built his own trailer, with proper car wheels which i really liked. but trawling ebay etc, ive not come across any others like it, so im thinking this may be the best way to go now. plus the high sides mean i can see it out of the rear window which helps when reversing :-)
its either an estate car, or bigger trailer now, and the car would cost us thousands to go down that route i think. so would you agree this trailer seems a good option?
or do you know of any bigger ones for the same sort of money?
I like having a trailer as I leave ours packed and ready to go. All we have to do is load up the fridge and put some clothes/sleeping bags in the back of the car and we are off. I don't like sticking to towing limits, seems so sllllooowww, but you do save a bundle on petrol when you are used to travelling at 80 mph on the motorways.
Whatever trailer you buy it will be too small for you, you expand to fit the room you have, rather than the other way round.
Bigger wheels make it safer to tow at speed. I'd go for the trailer that is larger by default, you can always expand it later on but you won't be able to expand the other one any more.
thanks for that. another little minus point for the little erde, is ive been told they dont have proper axles, the wheels just fit onto some sort of spindle thats fixed to the trailer. which would be a bit scary if you had a fair bit of weight in wouldnt it?
i can just picture both wheels splaying out under the weight of all our gear :-)
can anyone cofirm that this is the case with erde trailers?
