I have just bought a couple of fat Airics. It would have been nice if we could have got a double but not produced as yet and Alpkit tell me there are no plans to bring one out. I was really impressed with Alpkit though, who were really quick in replying to my queries and were just as quick in delivering my order. I must say I am really impressed with them and as usual UKCampsite members pointed me in the right direction.
Now it would be nice to fasten two together to make a double and stop them sliding apart during the night. I had thought of getting a Thermarest Universal Couple Kit (£7.40 from Gaynor's, Ambleside - Alpkit even gave me a link for them) but wondered if anybody out there had found something better. I look forward to hearing from you guys!!!
The Fat Airic is the most comfortable mat I've used. The Filo goose down jacket is easily better than jackets costing three times as much.
I go to the Alpkit website to visit my wallet :-)
The service is never less than excellent, always next day delivery and always a handwritten thankyou not enclosed.
When the Filo goose down jacket was delayed, it went on sale on the Friday before xmas, so they used courier delivery to ensure it arrived in time, at no extra cost.
I'm determined to get a fat airic for my Easter trip. Thank you for reassuring me on the service you receive from the company. I'll be purchasing one soon to save me freezing at Easter.
Thanks for all the replies. This site is just typical of campers - ever willing to share their ideas and experiences and to help each other out - much appreciated.
What about taking a double duvet cover, and slipping them both inside, if a sheet slips off?
We will be using our fat airics next season, and had thought of adapting a double duvet cover to make 2 x slipovers, but now thinking it might be better to just pop the two airics inside, instead.
I have just bought the Thermarest coupling kit and tried it out on the sleeping mats and they work a treat. The mattresses are held securely so there should be no wandering off during the night!! Too cold as yet to try them out in the field but I reckon the problem is solved. I did have a look at buying some nylon tape and making my own but at 48p a metre for the tape alone it didn't seem worth the bother. With the coupling kit and a blanket over the top we should enjoy a good night's sleep. The double duvet cover sounds a good idea - would probably need to sew down it to make it a snug fit with the Airics inside.
Thanks for all your replies and hope it has been useful to other members who have single mattresses.
