Tesco have a Becker Traffic Assist for £89.97 at the moment. Got one on Monday and its good. We had never seen one before but after a search on line we thought we would give it a go. It has uk & european mapping & you can say what mode of transport you are in. (cant select caravan but maybe lorry would work & not take you through narrow roads)

Sorry cant do the link but it is on their web site.

Hi Margaret.

To do the link thing,,,,,,,,,,, Have a seperate page running, ie: UKCS on one and The Tesco page on other.

Left click on the Tesco address line     top of page starting http://www   etc etc

when it all goes blue right click and select copy.

Return to your UKCS page and when typing a reply highlight a word you want to use that will show in red lettering, when people click on it this will take them to the page page you want them to read.

Once highlighted click on this 20 and press buttons Ctrl & V together then mouse click on ok, or the old right click and paste then ok.

this will put the link in the reply.

It will only show red when you have sent the message

Hi Margaret, on our satnav (garmin) the lorry mode only changes the arrival time, not what route you take. I have a feeling all makes are the same - still hoping they will some day realise us caravanners are not so few and far between anymore and make a programme that will NOT take us down narrow twisty lanes too small for even a MINI. I know I know, check your map I hear you all say, but we all make mistakes.

Have fun using your satnav. We use ours for geocaching aswell -great fun

Hi Bigmosmrs

We have only used it on journeys we know (work etc) as we only got it on Monday. Didnt consider the transport mode was only to do with journey time, thanks for advice. We have lots of testing to do this weekend.

Just enjoy yourselves, it's great fun even on journeys you know when suddenly you end up going down a previously unnoticed road. You see things you never new existed. You could try Geocaching with it  http://www.geocaching.com/(no good at links or anything computerish) and it will tell you how to download co-ordinates so you can go treasure hunting!! I'm sure there are plenty on your doorstep and you get to see lots of places you never knew about. Sorry -sounds like an ad but I have just had a fantastic day and it's all because of a satnav. Lol

Wow I've just noticed that my link worked. thank you that poster

Sat Navs can take you down some very peculiar routes, to say the least. The biggest problem is that the mapping software is in the process of being bought up by TomTom; as far as I can make out this is used by all the manufacturers.

Probably the best site for anything to do with in-car and mobile GPS is Pocketgps Plenty of advice on running the various different types of item. The most relevant part of their website is HERE because it deals with Motorhome / Caravan / HGV related problems

Sat Nav + map + common sense = stress free

Sat Nav + map - common sense = Stressed, lost and on a narrow lane with no way out.

i.e If you cant read a map, stay at home

There's something on Teletext this morning about how Lorries are damaging railway bridges by slavishly following GPS and not bothering to read road signs

I saw a foreign HGV lorry with left-hand drive do a three point turn in the middle of a main road by reversing into a narrow junction. That particular road/junction has accidents nearly every week because of poor visibility due to being on a hill with disappearing points...

I think his SatNav had told him to make a U turn!! I was walking the dog, wincing and waiting for the bang.. fortunately he managed the manoever successfully without incident. His guardian angel must have been watching, I've seen more accidents there than I've had hot dinners, and not three point turning juggernauts either.
