hmmmm. I don't necessarily agree.
I use liquid fueled stoves and lighting now, paraffin based. 2 years ago I began explaining the equipment to my then 8 & 4 year old kids. Showed them how it works, explained the dangers, let my 8 y.o. have a try at lighting a Primus stove etc. They both paid attention, now understand not to mess about near the stove or lantern and the eldest is keen on continuing to learn to use the stove. This year they'll both be given supervised opportunities to use the gear. If we don't teach em, who else will, and if they don't understand the dangers how can they be expected to avoid accidents? Each to their own, however, and you'll do what you believe to be best, rightly so. Just don't underestimate the kids. Mine continue to amaze me!
Best of luck with whatever you decide.
Well I Take your point on teaching and educating children and I find giving responsibility always worked well, all my children were taught how to use and work this equipment outside a tent first and even myself as an adult hesitate to use petrol or parrafin lighting /cooking stoves inside a tent. Carbon Monoxide in a non breathable tent being one reason let alone fire risk
