Am seriously considering getting a Cobb, having read the posts. Sounds a great piece of kit! Just one question (at the moment). The site we've booked for the summer holiday bans BBQs because of the fire risk. Would a Cobb come under this ban do you think?
The simple fact is that you can, with care, pick up / carry a Cobb when it is going at full tilt. They do not damage the ground.

I'm not sure - I think it would depend if the owner understood how a Cobb worked. My worry would be that if they didn't they may jsut say that as it uses charcoal as its fuel they would not accept it. We wondered about a Cobb/Cadac but have decided on a Weber Q. I'm not prepared to risk the Cobb in France and find that the sites we go to refuse to let us use it because they stipulate gas/electric BBQs.
I dont usually even ask.. I've used my Cobb at loads of places that ban BBQ's and never once had anyone question it, including a month touring round France. I actually think they're far safer than most gas/electric stoves...just showing you can pick it up and that the charcoal is not exposed shoul be enough if anyone did question it.

Same here .... never questioned, if I was would say it's an oven - then go into demo mode and try to sell them one lol
I try to use it on a table rather than the ground .........
I've found that most sites that ban BBQ's mean the disposable ones that people place on the floor and burn the grass etc, they are normally fine with gas or any that are off the floor, It sounds like you may have to ask to clarify?
------------- Doing as little as possible for as much as possible...
Hi Bob ..... it's not the Cobb that burns the grass it's them barrel bbq .......... good thing Sue is handy with her fork ..... and then he parked his car over the spot
