I'm looking for a particular type of camping gaz cooker - one that my dad had on his boat many years ago -

it was a double hob on legs and the bottle screwed directly underneath without a hose.

I can't find anything that fits this description now but he is adamant that this is what we need. He's 82 so there's no point arguing!

I had one of these years ago, really simple and sat on top of a 907 bottle and you then screwed in the valve type thing.Had it for years ,so your dads right but doubt if you could get one nowadays and I always wondered just how safe the design was, mind you it did the job....

Not seen one for sale recently.  These sit on the floor so you end up cooking on your knees,  great for men watching not so good for you.   Tell him they are not available and get one that fits  your needs.

I haven't seen one since the early 70's but this similar one still appears to be on sale on the continent.

thanks folks, I think that is the exact thing (I only vaguely remember the boat!).
I quite agree it looks a bit inconvenient for camping, but he wants to put it in an old wooden fishing boat he's just bought and it will be built into a unit so we can stand up to cook!
Apparently, we don't want loads of rubber hoses all over the place as it increases the chance of leaks and you can end up with bilges full of gas - probably not a good thing!

this really is a very fine forum!

This is a different kettle of fish,  Here is an idea that could work

Two suitcase stoves set into your unit as they use small canisters no need for lugging about large bottles.   No rubber pipes, and you disconnect the gas via a lever on the front of the stove when not in use.  Also has electronic ignition. Canisters usually last about 3 hours each and are readily available .

Let us know how you go on.

I've got one and I still use it sometimes. It's more stable looking than the one in the picture. I find it just the right height when I'm sitting down to cook. It was bought in the 60s.

Thank you all so much! No 3 is the one Dad had so now he's off on one of those "why do they always stop making good things" rants and I have the computer headphones on!

Hairyoldgit - I don't suppose your guide gives a name/code number for no 3?

bordercaz - I don't suppose you fancy selling your trusty old friend (that's the stove, btw I have quite enough dogs already!)

Hi Marishka

The Camping Gaz name for the stove is "De Luxe Double Burner" Code No. 09/0625.

You can still get the single one

Marishka, if you don't have any luck finding one, e-mail me via my web page (address below) and you can have it for the cost of postage, I don't use it very often and it would like a new home where it will be used and appreciated more. It is a bit tatty, as you would expect from something that's at least 40 years old, but still works well..

Hi Bordercaz, I'm having trouble getting your website! We've tried about a million outlets with no joy so I would like to take you up on your kind offer if it still stands. Perhaps you could email me through my website?
www.completecaninecare.co.uk

and was that a lurcher I spotted in one of your photos???

Hairyoldgit - I did manage to get him to look at your excellent suggestion but I think he works on the assumption that anything designed since about 1970 must be rubbish. Ho hum!

We used to have the number 2 in hairyoldgit`s picture, the 907 did not touch the floor it was quite secure and did the job well but a 904 bottle could not be used as it did not reach down to the legs
