Can anyone recommend which oil filled radiator we should buy for our folding camper. Obviously an easy transportable one is preferred and what power rating would make a difference? Spotted any good buys? Do you find they are warm enough?  We do have a blow heater but as the temperature dropped so much during the night in Scotland last year I found the noise from the blower irratating being a light sleeper, bit like those air conditioning units in hotels rooms.

Hi, we have used a 500 watt one in our campervan for several years (also bought from Argos).  It's fine 95% of time but if the temperature goes down near zero it can struggle a bit so if I was replacing it I think I'd go for a slightly more powerful one - after all they are adjustable  -  you don't have to have it going full blast.

How about a convecter heater, warm quiet but a lot lighter to transport than an oil filled rad.

We have a small oil filled radiator from Aldi or Netto I think it was..... is fab.....

Also have an Aldi convector heater also great.... but I do like the oil filled radiator is easy to transport and is silent and has a thermostat.

I give another vote to Wilkinson's.  We bought the 'connect it' oil filled radiator for £15. Not too heavy and gives out good heat (- as recommended to us by other users on this fabulous site).  Just the job!

After reading how good people find these radiators thought id have a look about. Bargain went in to wilkos half price £7.50, tried it when we got home it gets red hot. Its similar in size to the picture posted above, 700 watts with a thermostat.

Have looked at wilkinsons plus website & can't find it. Any ideas?

Also how do these compare heat wise to a fan heater?

What about a low wattage panel heater, such as the Dimplex 400w (here), they are slimline and cheap to run, and you won't trip the electic!

Hi, I have the catalogue still and have tried to search the wilkos website without any luck, they may no longer be available on line.

The one I have was £20 ( item no. 0232627) with three heat settings the other one for £14.99 (item no. 025772) has only one heat setting. Mine is tucked away in the garage so not sure what wattage it is.

Get yourself to a wilkos store, see if they have any.

The oil filled radiator definitely takes longer to heat up the space (obviously take into account drafts and size of space) but it is silent.  Our fan heater (another cheap and cheerful from Focus Do-It-All for about £15) heats up the area much faster but is noisier.  As we've got a trailer tent we're thinking of taking both (not that big and bulky suprisingly) so that we can keep the oil filled on low in the bed area at night and the fan heater to heat up the awning/bed area faster when we're not trying to get to sleep!  The fan heater also has a cool blow facility for the roasting hot summer we're going to have this year  but sadly I haven't tested this yet!  I think (from memory - boxes not handy to look at at the mo) the oil filled is 700w and the fan has 500w/1kw option.

I have to point out though that this is all theory based! I've read tons of posts  before commiting and buying anything but we haven't been out camping with them yet.  We did however have all the doors and windows open in our lounge in December and gave them both a try and we were impressed!  Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your useful comments and advice.

We will always keep the blow heater on board as they warm up quick, but I will definitely be checking out wilko's/argos/lidl for the oil filled radiator for when we are out of season or in the far north!   It looks like the panel heaters need attaching to something?.

I would like to think we are hardened campers but with a child in tow we have to make it comfortably warm so that we can get more days away, well thats my excuse.

I am visualizing you all sitting sitting round your heaters teeth chattering, wind rushing through your hair, taking notes on clipboards, Ho Ho.
