There are several serious issues with the Garmin Colorado series. As some of them appear to be hardware related, they cannot be fixed with a firmware upgrade.
I opted for the GPSMAP 60CX model, which seems OK.
If you just want it for Britain, France, USA or New Zealand I think you'll find Memory-Map software running on a Pocket PC will be vastly superior. Garmin's UK TOPO map which, like Memory-Map is based on Odrnance Survey mapping, is pretty useless as it's missing loads of information compared to Memory-Map.
Another excellent option for Great Britain Pocket PC compatible mapping is Mapyx, which seems better and cheaper than Memory-Map, although less well established.
