We are off to the Cote D'Azur in a couple of weeks

We will have EHU and and are trying to decide whether to take a 'proper' camping coolbox/fridge or an everyday table top fridge.

Have seen a great table top fridge MICROMARK CZ51055WFRS £89.99 which we could use at home as well but I am concerned as to how much electricity this will use. We only have 6amps on site - all its says on spec is 602kwh per year? We are taking  650 watt mini oven and I dont want to hav to turn fridge off every time I want to cook.

I have to say I find all this amps/watts thingy very confusing and have found the charts recently posted to be very useful. If I was staying in the UK then the above fridge would defo be my 1st choice but will it be ok on my French site?

Having camped in France many times our main difficulty has been not having a decent fridge so this year I want to gt it right.

Any thoughts on the above fridge would be great. I would put a link on but I hve absolutley no idea how to, sorry . It is on Comet online.

Cheers

Gemma

Our table top fridge is rated at 68 watts  . . . Brilliant fridge even in the heat of central europe

A 6 amp supply at 230volts gives you 1,380 watts so no probs

Your quoted  yearly rating of 602 kwh breaks down as:

602,000watts per year which if you divide by 365 days is 1,649 per day which divided by 24 hours in a day is just over 68 watts per hour. So it uses just 68 watts in one hour. Nothing really is it?

You'll have no problem with your fridge on ANY site, even if it was only a 3amp EHU  site!

Enjoy your trip

Chaz

Forgot to say, the fridge and the cooker together only comes to 718 watts so you will be using just over half of the available capacity so it WON'T be a problem.

As this is a compressor fridge (40db), I don't think it works like that as it will not run continuously but stop and start.  The starting current is likely to be much higher than the continuous running current.

The solution is to e-mail the retailer or the manufacturer to ask them these values.

Mike

Thanks for the reply. When you look at it like that the answer is obvious

Normally we have our main hols in top of the range mobile home (ex employee of eurocamp, keycamp so cheaper than camping) and have short breaks under our own steam.

This year however we have replaced all our camping gear and have decided to branch out on our own (still going to same site though) and I think that I am doing too much thinking.

Now I have done a bit more thinking  and remembered that obviously it is ok cos all Eurocamp & Keycamp tents have large fridges in I think I shall go and sit quietly in a corner somewhere.

I am normally the one being asked daft questions - not doing the asking.

Mind you at least I havent asked if there is aircon in the tents yet

And you may notice it has a 3 amp fuse fitted in the plug!

Thats a huge clue!

Definately take the table top fridge with you.  Our 2 weeks in the south of France last year would not have been the same without it, you can make so much more ice in the normal fridges for the G&T.  We had no problems at all with ours.

Enjoy

All right no need to rub it in

Honestly you would think I would be too used to people asking me odd questions to do it myself wouldnt you?

Air con in a tent - isn't that when you roll down a window or roll up the front of the tent!

The exact answer given by the poor courier who wasnt old enough/experienced enough to try work out whether or not the customer was having them on.

Mind you given that people have also asked where the wardrobes and bathrooms are and how often the maid service comes around I have no idea why I was suprised.
