Evening

We are heading off to France in the summer for 3 weeks or so and would like to update our old cooker.  Currently we run off a big butane canister but want to cut down on weight and space.  Has anyone any suggestions for a reliable double ring cooker (not fussed for a grill) which maybe uses cartridges that are easy to come by in France...  I've looked at a Wynnster 2 burner stove

............or would I be just as good keeping what I've got and spending the money on wine when I get there?

How about getting 2 of the single ring / canister ones ? You can pick those up for £9 or £12 each.

It's great to take one for days out, or long car trips (use ours loads driving thru France instead of paying service station prices). You can make tea, have a fry up on the beach or lake etc

I'm not sure what we're doing this year touring in France. Usually for long holidays we run the camping fridge and double ring cooker off the gas. Then short trips use single canister ring. If we can buy without the fridge or run it off electricity then think I'll opt for 2 single canister ones. Cheap, cheerful and light!

Smasing thanks. I might go down that route instead- are canisters easy to come by in rural France?

We got stuck in France last year when our stove failed and looked in vain for a couple of the suitcase cartridge stoves. We couldn't see one in any of the usual places, nor could we find the cartridges.

The better alternative is the Coleman Dual Fuel stove which runs on unleaded so removing the need for a gas cylinder.

How about a small camping gaz party grill + a suitcase burner.  You can use the party grill as a single ring burner or a grill and the cartridges are camping gaz so can be bought in France.

You will always find Camping gaz in France - even in supermarkets. I would go with that.
