this may seem a silly question but....is it possible to have a 3metre gas hose, we have a cadac bbq and would like to be able to use our bbq socket that is on the side of the van but would need a hose long enough to take the bbq through/around the awning to be a safe distance away when cooking.I know you can get the hose supplied with regulator in 1metre length.I am slightly worried about how safe it would be to have a gas hose the length we would need so just a little advice would be appreciated before me and hubby fall out over it!

thanks

gillian

I am pretty sure there's a sound safety reason as to why gas hoses are only sold in 1m lengths...perhaps the amount of gas left in a longer hose even when disconnected at both ends consitutes some sort of hazard? Whatever...I'm sure you could sweet talk someone into selling you a longer length, but you'd have to be aware that it's not usual.

Hi

As far as i know you can buy it per metre as i have one that is two metres long and one that is 1.5 metres. The problem i believe with having a long gas hose is that the pressure will be reduced by the time it reaches the appliance especially has the bottle is used up but i may be wrong.

cheers

steve

I would recommend giving a quick call to Calor on their freephone number 0800 626 626 as there seems to be conflicting views. Some instruction manuals quote that the hose should be no more than 1.5metres and yet some retailers are selling the hose by the metre to any length and also pig tailed hoses.

I wonder if the rule of thumb is to keep the hose as short as possible to avoid trailing it around as the outcome of someone tripping over the hose and loosening the connection could be catastrophic.

I use a 3 metre hose to connect my cooker and have no worries about using it.

Hi

This is a reply i received from Calor reference Gas Hose

There is no specific minimum or maximum length to a rubber LPG hose, (many off the shelf hoses are in the region on 1 metre long).

However:

·         The hose length should be kept to the minimum practically possible, since a longer hose will produce a larger pressure drop which may make the appliance inoperable.

·         The hose length should be long enough that the cylinder is not affected by heat radiating from the attached appliance.

hope this helps

cheers

steve
