was wondering if anyone can reccomend an inexpencive tent to do the cooking in if the weather turns wet. Was thinking of one of those open sided gazwbos but not sure.
If you are thinking of one of those garden gazebos then you may wish to think again. A lot of vitriol has been spilt on this site over garden gazebos that have blown down in very moderate weather and damaged other people's tents. They are not very strong and will collapse and pull away from their moorings.
Get a proper kitchen or dayroom tent. You may be looking to spend at least £40 but it will be more guaranteed to survive a camp.
Hi there,we agree with Former Scout, gazebo's are not the safest. Whilst away at Searles in Hunstanton last year we had some moderate winds through the night & in the morning every gazebo on the site was bent & on the floor. We have a kitchen utility tent which we use with our weeked tent, we were very lucky on the price as it was out of season but a very reasonably priced one I have found at the moment is the Outdoor Revolution Outhouse Double Utility Tent which can be purchased from Camping & General for £34.99. The link is below, hope this helps.
I can recommend the (double) Outhouse - use a couple of delta pegs on it and it just wont move. It has space for all your storage/cooking needs, you can fit inside to cook with the door shut in very wet weather.
Dont forget with gazebos, it mightn't cost much to buy one and you may be happy to risk losing it, but what if you lose it into someone elses car windscreen or tent ? Gazebos have a place, it's just not on a windy campsite !
A vote for the Outdoor Revolution Double Outhouse from me too.I also have a day tent for longer trips,if I want to spread out a bit more but in all honesty,I feel the outhouse is going to be our permanent replacement for our kitchen now,its such a neat package and ticks my boxes, but a gazebo,no no no not recommended.
