Hi there,

We are just about to (after much toing and froing and research and all that soul searching decision making process ) bite the bullet for our outdoor cooking implement and buy a Weber Q120. So the question is what do you run them off ??

They seem to run from cannisters - are these pricey and hard to get hold of??

I was hoping it may run from our butane gas or even the old camping gas 907 ??

Is this possible or does it have to be the patio gas stuff - If so do you have to buy the tank for it - and what adaptor / regulator do I need - Hoping for the butan really to save another tank to drive around with us.

Many Thanks

Pam

Hi

We have had one of these for about 18 months now and love it. We were Weber fans before (charcoal) so nothing new there.
You can get adaptors that allow it to run from your caravans gas and from the caravans side outlet (if you have one). We bought ours from Calor Gas in Southampton (which is sort of near you to!!) and they were really helpful and the best deal around .

Hope you enjoy the Weber experience.

We've got one too - we bought it at the end of last season and are looking forward to trying it out next week on our first trip of the year.

We are going to run it with gas from our 907.  We also bought one of the Weber cannisters as a back up.  Yesterday we bought a Weber extension hose which incorporated a push on pull off sort of connector which will mean that it will reach the cannister easily, especially as we also invested in the trolley for it so that it will be at waist height rather than on the ground.

I'll post a review of how we get on with it when we get back.

Hi thanks for your replies - we are hoping to run it from the 907 too (but we do have the outside thing on the caravan) - The 907 has a regulator from the campinggaz stove - will this regulator do or is a connector needed on the weber too - sorry if it seems dumb questions....... As we dont already have it it is hard to imagine - but wanting to order it to use next week so want the correct set up - (cannister also to be ordered as a back up I think)

We too are thinking of the trolley for the weber.

Thanks

Pam

I've got a Weber Q100 and I run it from the gas point on the outside of the Caravan,  You don't need a specia webber regulator a standard regulator works.  I think you can buy the proper gas tubing from here http://www.wowbbq.co.uk/shop/?database=Weber%20Accessories&action=view_product&productID=3649&category=41

Hi Sorry to ask again - but i am getting twitchy now before spending lots of money on this item.

Can anyone confirm they have run it successfully from BUTANE gas (blue bottle or the 907 bottle) - I can see 'boff' has run it from the caravan but not confirmed if butane or propane - It will cost me loads more if I have to go out and buy a propane/patio gas bottle too - so beginning to wonder if I should go for the 'cadac' that seems so popular?? (also a bit cheaper and runs from butane which i already have)

Thanks - Pam

You can run it off a butane cylinder - the "adaptor" is a length of normal hose with a threaded nut on one end that screws onto the weber, the other end is either open - for you to fit your own regulator (campingaz, calor butane/propane etc) or will have a regulator fitted (the one weber sells seems to be ready fitted with a patio gas regulator but I have seen other shops that will fit whatever you want on the end) or it will have a quick release plug crimped on it to conect to caravan etc.

Out of interest what price have you found the 120 for? I am looking for one, I am not sure whether to go for the folding trolley as well.

Hi

Thanks for all the info and help - after much ado I have now ordered my Weber. You can get a weber Q120 from www.bbqworld.co.uk for £125.00 or they do a package which includes a weber Q120 & a rolling cart & vinyl cover & one of the small canisters for £155.00 - which having looked around looks as good a deal as i have seen this time of year (even if still not cheap) AND free delivery.

Also I will be running it from my 907 bottle (or the canister if at the beach !!!)

PS I have gone for the rolling cart, cover and canister - hope the weather is good at the weekend - Oops Ive gone and said it now!!!

Just to report back -

Have had a week away with our new weber - BBQ'd most nights and one breakfast - using it initially off the canister and then from a 907 bottle - brilliant bit of kit - very pleased with our purchase and know we will get much use out of it - would recommend highly - we cooked a jointof beef, burgers, kebabs, chops, bacon and eggs (on griddle), sausages, courgettes, (not all at once you understand!!!) and have plans for lots more on the next outing.  Hubby showing a new found interest in the cooking side of things - struggle to get in there myself now, and - he cleans the kit afterwards....!!!!  Very pleased

Taneth16, it sound like you are as pleased with your Q120 as we are with ours.  We have set ours up so we can run the cooker and the 120 at the same time.  I did have doubts over this set up, thinking that there might not be enough pressure to run them both, but it worked perfectly.

We were not brave enough to try to roast a joint of beef though.  Thought it might just scorch the outside and not cook the inside, even with the lid down.  How did you do it ?.

Hi Midge21,

Well it wasnt a massive joint i have to say as we are 2 adults and one 5yr old - I just cooked with the lid down and turned it regularly -  I seared it first on all sides and just regularly turning it - (lid down and med heat) - The result was similar to steak in texture so i think for a more 'jointy' feel a tray with water in also on the grill with the lid down may hold more moisture - but ours  was extremely tasty and one of the favourites of the week. We have used the it again today for chicken breasts and more kebabs - we are loving it. One of our best buys we think. So quick and easy to use - brill!!

Word of advice... dont ever add water to roasted joints of meat, it makes it taste like sh*te. It broils the meat !! for the correct way.... rub it first on all sides with vinegar, salt and freshly ground black pepper, then sear it on an extremeley high heat on all sides...."let it splash". that dries the blood up and seals the meat, making it retain its own moisture and flavours. then roast it for 20 mins per pound on a medium low heat, there wont be any vinegar taste left trust me!!. You will have a perfect roast.... this applies to lamb, pork and beef. ( i'm a chef )

The weber gas canisters are really easy to get hold of online.
http://www.bbqs2u.co.uk/279-weber-gas-canister-26100.html

You can also buy adapters so you can use normal gas bottles or even connect direct to caravan. Weber q120 bbqs are now called weber baby q bbqs!
